The announcement by MKIF Zrt. promises significant changes in Hungarian transport starting from 2025. The most important developments include the construction of new expressways and the expansion of the M7 motorway, which aim to reduce travel time and increase traffic comfort. The first major project will be the expansion of the M1 motorway, which will start in September 2025.
During the project, a 2x3 lane + ITS system section will be created between the rest points, which will be completed by 2029. The expansion of the M7 motorway will start in 2027-2028, and at the same time, the construction of the M200 road, which connects Komárom with Székesfehérvár, will also begin. On the M7 motorway, the target of the expansion is the section between M0 and Szabadbattyán, where a 2x3+ITS lane will be created, while a 2x2+ITS lane will be built between Szabadbattyán and Balatonvilágos. The ITS lane (Intelligent Transport Lane) is a new concept that normally functions as a work-stop lane, but can also be used as a traffic lane if necessary, for example during traffic jams or accidents.
Among the plans for the new road network is the M200, which will start from Komárom, go through Székesfehérvár to Sárbogár, and then to Kecskemét under the name M8.
This development includes the expansion of more than 299 km of expressways and the construction of 278 km of new tracks. These large-scale developments not only increase the speed and comfort of traffic, but also significantly contribute to improving traffic safety.
MKIF Zrt.'s plans can greatly facilitate road travel and provide the country with a modern and efficient transport network in the future.
