Free sections partly offset the situation. From August 1, 2024, a new law amendment came into effect. This law allows the free use of certain sections of the highway, so it is not necessary to have a valid highway sticker on these sections. The aim of the project is to reduce the number of vehicles driving in cities, thereby creating a greener environment. The proposal has already passed the opinion process. In total, up to 100 kilometers of new sections will become free. If we add to this the existing toll-free sections, a total of 200 kilometers of motorway sections will be available to motorists free of charge. These sections are located near major cities.
Transport experts also positively evaluate this step. In their opinion, it can have a positive effect on quality of life, noise levels and emissions. However, the most important advantage lies in the fact that most of the traffic is automatically diverted to the highway, making the city center less congested.
