Members of the "Moldova Vrea Autostradă" Association drew attention to the importance of the construction of the A8 highway with drumming on Saturday, Agerpres reported. The representatives of the MVA organized the "A8 Motorway with Drums" event in the main square of Iași with the aim of emphasizing the serious need for the implementation of the A8 Motorway.
The route, also known as the "Unification Highway", connects Iași with the western part of Romania and the Republic of Moldova via the city of Ungheni. "This event is a strong message to the authorities. The sound of the drums serves to convey the voice of citizens who want safer roads and modern infrastructure that meets the needs of Moldova. This is one of the ways to urge the authorities as an NGO to start the works as soon as possible," said Flavius Manea, president of the "Moldova Vrea Autostradă" Association. On Saturday, former prefect Nicuşor Păduraru, who is one of the founding members of the association, was among the visitors to the square. In a critical tone, he spoke about the delay in the implementation of the "Unification Highway", which he attributes to the weakness of local and government documentation, as well as the lack of strategic interest experienced in the last three decades, which holds back Moldova's development.
"Infrastructure means development in all aspects, economic growth leads to stability and less poverty," he added. At the same time, the founding member of the association, Adrian Covăsnianu, the former Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transport, emphasized the importance of building such a road infrastructure that connects the eastern and western parts of the country and thereby promotes the development of Moldova's counties. "Even if the weather is not in our favor, we want the news of the event to reach all the way to Bucharest, as we need the A8 highway in Moldova. We see that the tenders for the mountain sections have not yet been announced. We await the completion of the feasibility study for the Iași section. We hope to see clear signs about the construction of the highway next year. Let's just look at where there are already highways, how fast economies are growing, how communities are developing and people's living standards are improving," Covăsnianu said.
In addition to the interactive drum beats, a signature collection campaign was launched to support the construction of the A8 highway, and dialogue points were created where citizens could make suggestions for the development of the region's road infrastructure.
