Romania's new highway. Key connection on the east-west axis The National Environmental Protection Agency has published a reminder that contains new details about the construction of the A13 motorway. According to the reminder, the A13 highway between Brașov and Făgăraș will have a total length of 50 kilometers and will run entirely in the county of Brașov. How much does the Brașov - Făgăraș highway cost the state? The total construction costs of the A13 highway are officially estimated at approximately 4.7 billion lei. The project affects five administrative-territorial units, including Codlea, Dumbrăvița, Șinca, Șercaia and Mândra. The expected construction time is approximately 30 months. After analyzing different route options, the green option was chosen, which allows for a design speed of 120 km/h and adapts to the surrounding hilly countryside. The motorway junction included in the Sibiu – Făgăraș motorway project The Sibiu – Făgăraș motorway project includes the construction of a junction between the motorways, which includes the Brașov – Făgăraș and Sibiu – Făgăraș motorways and the connection with the DN1 road, thus ensuring the area efficient passage between its main transport routes. This interchange facilitates the flow of traffic and improves access between the highways and the national road network.
The Șercaia interchange is located on the route of the A13 motorway at km 36+600 and on the DN1 road at km 215, in the area bounded by DN1 and the railway line. Access highways are designed for a speed of 60 km/h, promoting smooth traffic and increasing traffic safety in the region. "This highway section, in cooperation with the Sibiu - Făgăraș section and the Ploiești - Brașov highway, will create the standard route of the highway leading to Bucharest and Sibiu and further to the Hungarian border, as soon as the projects currently under construction, in the case of the A1, are completed .” says the document. The Brașov – Făgăraș Motorway, a key connection on the east-west axis The new Brașov – Făgăraș Motorway will bring significant improvements to national and regional connections, facilitating transit along the east-west axis and contributing to increasing the efficiency of road transport in Romania. By integrating the route into the European corridor, the connection between the western border and the Black Sea will become much more accessible and efficient for freight and passenger traffic. The contract for the feasibility study and technical design necessary for the realization of the highway was signed in the summer of 2021, with Search Corporation – Protelco – Like Consulting – Mega Muhendislik Musavirlik association as partners. The amount of the contract is 18.17 million lei, and the preparatory work for the sheet section has already begun, which includes geotechnical research and studies of the optimal route.
